Job Overview

We are seeking an analytically minded, compliance-driven Senior Sales & Use Tax

Accountant with over 4 years of dedicated indirect tax and tax accounting experience. In this

role, you will be the operational anchor for our transactional tax function, managing end-to-

end multi-state sales tax compliance, use tax self-assessments, and corporate tax

accounting reconciliations.

The ideal candidate possesses a sharp understanding of evolving tax laws (such as

economic nexus and marketplace facilitator rules) and combines this with strong technical

accounting skills. You will leverage Oracle ERP integrated with indirect tax engines to ensure

balance sheet precision, manage tax provisions, and mitigate audit risks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales & Use Tax Compliance

• Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual multi-

state and local Sales & Use tax returns.

• Calculate and process timely tax remittances, ensuring accurate general ledger

account mapping and reconciliation of tax liability accounts.

• Oversee the Use Tax self-assessment process by auditing purchasing logs, accounts

payable invoices, and corporate expense reports to identify and accrue unpaid

liabilities.

2. Tax Accounting & Balance Sheet Integrity

• Manage the month-end close process for indirect taxes, including preparing complex

tax accruals, journal entries, and multi-state tax account reconciliations.

• Maintain the integrity of the tax sub-ledger to general ledger (GL) reconciliations

within Oracle, identifying and correcting variance anomalies promptly.

• Assist with the preparation of indirect tax provisions and financial statement

disclosures, ensuring alignment with US GAAP/IFRS standards.

3. Tax Law Research & Nexus Monitoring

• Monitor and analyze legislative changes, state tax boards' rulings, and judicial

precedents (e.g., economic nexus thresholds) to assess impacts on company

operations.

• Maintain and update the corporate tax matrix, ensuring accurate product taxability

mapping across changing state jurisdictions.

• Act as an internal consultant to Sales, Procurement, and Legal teams regarding the

tax implications of new business initiatives, cross-border transactions, or contract

structures.

4. Audit Management & Exemption Governance

• Serve as a key point of contact for state and local Sales & Use tax audits, compiling

audit files, retrieving transaction data, and formulating technical defense positions.

• Oversee the collection, validation, and maintenance of customer Tax Exemption

Certificates utilizing certificate management software, mitigating risk on untaxed

revenue streams.

5. Oracle ERP & Tax Engine Optimization

• Leverage Oracle ERP (Cloud/Fusion or EBS) and its integration with specialized third-

party tax engines (such as Vertex, Avalara, or Thomson Reuters OneSource) to

monitor tax transaction logs.

• Partner with IT and Financial Systems teams to troubleshoot tax calculation errors,

run system regression testing during upgrades, and optimize automated tax

provisioning logic.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s in

Taxation, CPA, CMA, CA, CMI (Certified Member of the Institute) is a strong plus.

• Experience: 4+ years of core experience specializing in multi-state Sales and Use tax

compliance and tax accounting, preferably within a corporate environment or public

accounting firm.

• ERP Expertise: Hands-on experience navigating and extracting transaction data from

Oracle ERP modules (AR, AP, GL) is mandatory.

• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of US indirect tax law principles, general

ledger tax accounting mechanics (accruals, provisions, reconciliations), and

structural tax engine mapping.

• Soft Skills: Meticulous attention to detail, strong investigative habits, and the

communication clarity required to explain complex tax code realities to non-finance

teams.

• Tools: Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced data manipulation, lookup formulas, and

pivot tables) and indirect tax filing .
